The Escape
The South continues to be underrecognized as a site of transformation for many facets of American history, art, and culture. We aim to shift the dependence on creative spaces rooted in established cultural centers by supporting artists and cultural workers in a suburban or rural Southern community. The Escape, a DIY Residency with The Stay at Nearview and Saloma Acres, seeks to position these places as potential and fertile ground for expanding cultural and creative canons.
Designed by DéLana R.A. Dameron, and operated in conjunction with her husband Curtis Caesar John, this new initiative has been in beta stage since we acquired the property in 2019, and we are so excited to open our town and farm to you!
The STAY at NEARVIEW is a DIY residency space designed to provide folks the opportunity to step away from their daily life and think, create, rest, dream—whatever is needed. NEARVIEW is approximately 15 minute (drive) to SALOMA ACRES, our 22-acre outdoor cultural and equestrian play space. Please consider SALOMA an extension of your time here.
**to note: The STAY at NEARVIEW is a private house in a residential neighborhood. Folks interested in this opportunity must have their own access to a car.
Applications will be open until Friday, October 14, 2022. Residencies can begin as early as December 1, and take place until latest May 31, 2023.
